My first notion upon reading this column, was to never post articles from WaPo again. However they are about as irresponsible when it comes to issues of race, as many other so-called ‘news outlets’. Whether its denying the existence of racism, or totally exploiting current events that occur within racial context, the news media shares more that its share of blame. Instead, I decided to post the column as one of many examples of the sort of racial bias and stereotyping that is the gasoline that fuels racial division in America. While Mr. Cohen selectively quotes New York City ‘stop & frisk’ statistics, he completely omits the fact only 1 in 10 of those stops results in anything but the public humiliation of young minority men.

It’s a shame so few ‘journalists’ speak truth to power and ask tough questions anymore. So many are more concerned with ratings that truth. Helen Thomas was the quintessential journalist, always prodding, always outspoken, always demanding answers. Rest in peace, Helen Thomas.
