I’m always concerned when law enforcement officials move to withhold public records, like 911 recordings. Generally embedded in such records is information that officials wish to coverup or that is inconsistent with the police narrative of an event. Nearly three weeks after 17 year old Trayvon Martin was gunned down in Sanford, FL by neighborhood watch captain, George Zimmerman, Seminole County officials have released the 911 records.
The tapes in this case are similarly telling, elucidating the shooter’s state of mind and his behavior, which is clearly inconsistent with the instructions given him by the 911 dispatcher. The revalation of the recordings seem to point to a possible bungled investigation at best, and frank bias at worst. This story is far from over.
